Three things to know before you buy

  • 1
You'll need a level base. Gravel, slab or deck blocks — sized 12′1″ × 10′1¼″. Not included.
  • 2
Roof boards are included; the top layer isn't. The 4° slope needs metal, rolled or PVC — shingles won't shed water at that pitch.
  • 3
It arrives as sanded, kiln-dried, untreated spruce. Bare wood has no weather protection, so stain or paint it within the first few weeks — you pick the color.

In the box — and not

One pallet. Almost everything.

Every wood part is pre-cut and numbered. Three things are deliberately left to you, because climate and taste vary too much to ship one answer.

Included in the kit

  • Double tongue-&-groove wall panelsSustainably harvested Norway spruce, untreated
  • Roof boards, floor kit & joistsT&G spruce floor on pressure-treated joists
  • Glazed double door, lock & keys4′4″ × 6′2″ dual-pane glass
  • 2 fixed front windows1′10″ × 6′2″ dual-pane — they don't open
  • All hardware, manual & blueprintPlus the full video library — build in 1–2 days

You'll add — and roughly what it costs

  • Foundation DIY $250–700 · pro slab $1,200–2,500Level, well-drained, 12′1″ × 10′1¼″. Built before the pallet arrives — size it in the foundation calculator.
  • Roofing material $200–600The 15° pitch takes shingles, metal or PVC — match the house.
  • Stain or paint $100–3001–2 gallons outside, about a gallon inside, and a quart for trims and floors. Try the colors on the 3D model before you buy a can.

Typical owner-built total: the kit price plus $550–$1,600 in materials. Hiring out the base and the build adds roughly $2,700–$5,500.

Step 1

Order — on your schedule

Buy now, build later: tell us when you want delivery and we hold the kit. Free shipping in the lower 48.

Step 2

Arrives in 1–3 weeks

One flat-packed pallet, about 2,260 lbs, every board pre-cut and numbered.

Step 3

Curbside drop-off

The dispatcher calls to agree a window. The pallet is too big for a liftgate, so it comes off by hand — plan on two people for about an hour. Driver-assisted unloading and expedited delivery can be added for a fee; ask us for a quote when you order.

Step 4

Build it — 8–20 hrs, 2 adults

Check the pallet against the packing list in the first 30 days — anything damaged or missing ships free. Boards interlock tongue-and-groove; no framing skills needed. Manual, blueprint and video library included. Prefer not to? A local handyman can build it — ask us and we'll recommend someone if we cover your area.

Tight street, steep drive, or an island address? Call before ordering — we'll check the route with the carrier so there are no surprises on the day.

Excellent quality product

“Excellent quality product, from the wood to the doors. It's never easy to take on a major project like this as a husband and wife team, but with the SolidBuildWood staff being incredibly responsive to a couple of questions we had about the directions, we ended up with a beautiful 'guest house'/formally a shed. We were able to get it done in a 3 weekends with one other guy, and we did hire local roofers. In 3 short months we created a beautiful place for my 92-year-old father in law to sleep. This was far superior to leaving him in a facility. It cost us 1.5 months of what the facilities charge and is far warmer, more personable and beautiful and best of all - we are right there for him!”

After deciding to turn my 2 car garage

“After deciding to turn my 2 car garage into an ADU so that my daughter and her family could enjoy the big house she grew up in and I could have the security at age 80 to live in my home until I died I realized I needed a Studio to play and read and paint and keep what couldn't fit in my perfect 20 by 20. new home. I researched for 2 years and finally decided upon the very one I had seen at first, the 11 X 13 (forgot the name)from Solid Build. I couldn't be more satisfied. The price was the best I found for the quality and a few add- ons (2 extra windows) completed the deal. I found a handyman to put it up and I am very happy with my new living space.”

The delivery person was awesome

“The delivery person was awesome, suggesting storing the wood in the garage, which I wasn't aware of as an option. Some labeling was off, however, the contact from SolidBuild was very responsive and walked me through checking the kit. The shed is beautiful. It hasn't even been painted yet and I am getting compliments from all of my neighbors.”

Common questions

Frequently asked questions.

At 117 sq ft this model sits under the 120 sq ft threshold most US counties use, so a permit usually isn't required. Rules vary by county and HOA, so one call to your local building department settles it. Every kit includes a blueprint you can hand them if plans are asked for.
A level, well-drained base sized 12′1″ × 10′1¼″, flat within ¼″. A compacted gravel pad, deck blocks or a timber frame all work; a concrete slab is the premium route but is not required. Most owners do it in an afternoon for $250–$700. The foundation calculator gives you the shopping list and cut list.
The 4° slope needs metal, rolled or PVC — shingles won’t shed water at that pitch. Budget $200–600 for 166 sq ft of roof area. Roof boards themselves are included in the kit.
Most owners finish in 8–20 hrs, 2 adults with basic tools — hammer, drill, level, ladder. The wall boards interlock tongue-and-groove, so no framing skills are needed. Manual, blueprint and video library are included, and the support line answers mid-build questions. If you would rather not build it yourself, a local handyman can — we can recommend services in some areas, so ask before you order.
Yes. Insulate the roof above the T&G boards under your roofing layer, and the floor between the joists. The walls are solid 1⅜″ double T&G spruce with good thermal mass; pair with a mini-split for full climate control.
Yes — most office and studio builds do. Conduit surface-mounts neatly along the solid wood walls with clips, so no in-wall channels are needed and the wiring stays inspectable. Plan the trench or overhead run before the build. A shed under 120 sq ft rarely needs a building permit, but the electrical work usually does — ask your city whether it wants a permit and an inspection.
Free curbside freight in the lower 48. One flat-packed pallet of about 2,260 lbs arrives 1–3 weeks after ordering; the dispatcher calls first to agree a window. The pallet is too big for a liftgate, so it comes off by hand, board by board — plan on two people for about an hour. Driver-assisted unloading and expedited delivery can be added for a fee; ask us for a quote when you order.
The two opening side windows install toward the front or the back of the side walls — you decide during assembly, at no cost. The French door and the two tall front windows are engineered into the front wall panel and cannot move. An add-on double window ($495) can go into either side wall.
Call (800) 590-2508 ext. 1 within 30 days of delivery and the replacement part ships free within 10 business days. The 1-year limited warranty covers manufacturing and workmanship defects.
